What is it?
The formal definition is as follows; Computer engineering is a discipline that integrates several fields of electrical engineering and computer science required to develop computer hardware and software.
With this it can be concluded that computer engineers are the hybrid offspring of electrical engineering and computer science. This couldn't be more true. Computer hardware is built using electric circuits meaning you need the knowledge of an electrical engineer. It also requires the knowledge of computer scientists because it demands the theories of computation and coding. Computer engineers mix these two fields to design/build/test computer hardware and software. (Computer engineers are electrical engineers with a specialty in computers)
When researching it has been found that most computer engineers design hardware. If they do go into software it is by means of coding. They get an advantage in coding since they know how the hardware will work with it.
It has also been found that a computer engineers could also be an electrical engineer. They learn about the same things as electrical engineers but get extra knowledge on computer coding, systems, and computer architecture.
What is meant by hardware and software?
These two make up the basis of a computer. Hardware is the actual physical component inside the computer. Example would be the circuitry, modems, CR-Roms. The software is information allows you to interact with your computer and allows it to perform a task. Example would be Microsoft word.
